An Answer to the New York Times' Question

Never ones to miss an opportunity to attack Israel, the New York Times editorial board took advantage of Gilad Shalit's release to yet again slam the country in an editorial today.
In it, the writer poses the following question:
One has to ask: If Mr. Netanyahu can negotiate with Hamas -- which shoots rockets at Israel, refuses to recognize Israel's existence and, on Tuesday, vowed to take even more hostages -- why won't he negotiate seriously with the Palestinian Authority, which Israel relies on to help keep the peace in the West Bank?
The answer is quite simple. Israel hasn't engaged in serious negotiations with the Palestinians because Mahmoud Abbas has refused to participate in such negotiations, disregarding a chorus of world leaders who have urged him to talk peace. Abbas has blocked talks with preconditions that even his violent predecessor, Yasir Arafat, didn't insist on.

Including preconditions like the one inserted by the NY Times' own darling President Obama that all settlement construction cease. It is sad that the NYT's customer base includes too many credulous readers for the paper to face the deserved consequences of its anti-Israel propagandizing.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
TO ANSWER THE NEW YORK TIMES' QUESTION, IT TAKES TWO TO NEGOTIATE AND IF ONE SIDE FEELS THAT IT CANNOT GET WHAT IT CONSIDERS NECESSARY TO MEET ITS REQUIREMENTS, IT WAITS FOR A MORE APPROPRIATE MOMENT.
SUCH AS, WHEN THE NEW YORK TIMES IN THE 1962 PRINTERS' STRIKE WAITED UNTIL THE HERALD TRIBUTE, ITS MAIN COMPETITOR WENT OUT OF BUSINESS AND THE PRESSMEN COULD BE FORCED TO ACCEPT THE TIMES' TERMS.
THAT KIND OF NEGOTIATION.

We might benefit from your creating a petition to the NY Times asking them to pay attention to their ignoring the DATA of Abbas positions, including his permitting, if not encouraging, hatred of Jews and of killing Jews as taught in the schools of the 'PA'. We all seem to have forgotten that the PA is the nominal successor to the Palestine LIBERATION Organization, and not abandoned the intent of the 'Liberation' part of the predecessor.
