Abbas Rejects Recognizing Israel as the Jewish State

In an August 28, 2011, article, YNET reports, "the Palestinian Authority will not be recognizing Israel as a Jewish state, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said Saturday, adopting a belligerent tone ahead of his planned statehood bid in September."

Highlighting this ongoing rejection of the Jewish State, the YNET article goes on to report,

The Palestinian leader also criticized demands made by the International Quartet of his Authority, urging the international community to back off. "Don't order us to recognize a Jewish state," Abbas said. "We won't accept it."

Abbas, as well as, the Fatah group which he leads, are often presented as moderates. Yet, they, like Hamas, their counterpart in the unity government, continue to reject the basic principle of Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel.

The international Quartet (US, Europe, Russia and the UN) set three conditions for any Palestinian government to attain international legitimacy. These basic conditions are recognizing Israel's right to exist, renouncing terrorism and violence, and accepting previous agreements and obligations. Violating all three conditions this past week, Abbas rejected the Jewish State, failed to condemn the recent terrorist attack against Israel, and continued to move forward on the bid for statehood through a UN vote, in clear violation of previous agreements.

Even more damning is his assertion that he will push for descendants of Arab refugees to be resettled in pre-1967 Israel - in a recent Jordanian press peace. He is not, and has never been, a peace partner

I think UN approval of the Palestinian bid for statehood will actually be GOOD for Israel. Before you condemn me, stay with me on this...

"Palestine" becomes a state and full-fledged member of the UN. Eastern "Palestine" (aka the Gaza Strip) continues to launch rockets and other acts of war (no longer "terror attacks", since it is from a legitimate member state in the UN). Israel goes to the Security Council (UNSC) with ultimatum: demilitarize "Palestine" or Israel will take defensive actions to protect its citizens. UNSC fails to take action (you'd expect anything different). Israel responds by using the "Ghengis Khan option", i.e., leave nothing taller than a pebble standing behind you. Start at one end of Gaza and the "West Bank" and clean up the garbage. No more "Palestinian" problem for Israel. Israel's response is NOT "disproportionate" since it is acting in self-defense from an act of war from another UN member state.

I admit my approach has some rough spots, but should be considered.

J.J. Goldberg wrote in Forward that it shouldn't matter to Israel whether the Palestinians explicitly recognize Israel as a Jewish state because every nation retains its right to identify itself regardless of other's definitions. Perhaps. But the Middle East is different with most Arab states specifically identifying themselves as Islamic. The Palestinians declare not one single Jew may remain in what would become their state and presently intimidate and grossly abuse the small Palestinian Christian minority. Therefore Israel would be very foolish indeed not to demand as a sine qua non Palestinian acceptance of Israel's Jewish character. If they won't - and they won't - there will not be any 2-state solution. Realistically there will not be any 2-state solution or peace in the forseable future, if ever. To believe otherwise and/or to expect genuine peace there, is unfortunately a dangerous delusion, one held by the president. This does not mean President Obama is "throwing Israel under the bus". That means he is simply very wrong. He like all past presidents of both parties will learn the sad, true lesson: you cannot make real peace unless BOTH parties want real peace.

Just as "THE FINAL SOLUTION" was the Nazi euphemism for "THE MURDER OF ALL EUROPEAN JEWS","not recognizing Israel as a Jewish state" is the euphemism used for 63 years by the Palestinians and all their Jihadist sponsors and supporters for "THE MURDER OF ALL ISRAELI JEWS AND THE DESTRUCTION THE UN AUTHORIZED JEWISH STATE OF ISRAEL". So every time Abbas or his colleagues use that euphemism, they are saying we will only agree to a SHAM PEACE TREATY WITH ISRAEL FOR WE INTEND TO CONTINUE OUR WAR FOR THE MURDER OF ALL ISRAELI JEWS AND OF ISRAEL. HOW CAN ANY DECENT NATION OR PERSON BLAME ISRAEL FOR NOT MAKING PEACE TREATY CONCESSIONS TO ANY GROUP THAT REFUSES TO END ITS GENOCIDAL WAR AGAINST ISRAEL?

That's funny, I could have sworn Abbas insisted that he DOES recognize Israel's right to exist... Multiple times...
