CNN Apologizes for Problematic Headline

Earlier today, we pointed to CNN's headline about the Palestinian terror attack on a Jerusalem synagogue, which failed to make any distinction between the perpetrators and the victims.

CNN, we noted, eventually changed the headline from "4 Israelis, 2 Palestinians killed in synagogue attack, Israeli police say" to the somewhat more descriptive "4 Israelis killed in synagogue attack, Israeli police say." The current headline, even more detailed but still in the passive voice, reads "Israel: 4 dead after men with knives, gun attack Jerusalem synagogue."

To its credit, CNN has also apologized for its initial headline. According to the Jerusalem Post, the network has explained that

As CNN updated its reporting on the terrorist attack on the synagogue in Jerusalem earlier today, our coverage did not immediately reflect the fact that the two Palestinians killed were the attackers. We erred and regret the mistake.

Well CNN is owned by Saudi Arabian billionaire Prince Alwaleed Ibn Talal. So I do not believe that CNN has made any mistakes. They have done exactly what they intended to do. The are owned by someone who is Pro Muslim and against Christian and Jewish people. It is not a wonder that they are not completely twisting more truths to fit their agendas. I do not believe anything reported by CNN or The New York Times.

i think it slipped thru so easily because the default for these organisations is to paint a situation of moral equivalence in every case of violence.

bad arabs, bad jews. just let them be. crazy place that middle east. i don't want to be involved. the jews MUST be really bad if their enemies are willing to do such terrible things. strange people those jews. not sure if i can trust them. aah nevermind - its got nothing to do with me.

The CNN narrative is one of Jewish perpetrators and Arab victims. Saying the massacre happened at a Mosque rather than a synagogue was done deliberately by one of CNN's Arab stringers. Ben Weidemann then ran with this story. Israel should revoke the press privileges of CNN in Israel.

Reply to Karla, While I agree that this was reported rather poorly, I think that CNN is owned by Time Warner, a publicly traded company.

Ben Wedeman and other similar journalists need to be shown a red card by Israel same as the did for Mads Gilbert i.e. refused entry for life.
The strategy CNN is following is to bring out breaking news headlines that discredit Israel, and when the damage is done, to appologise for the error. This is not acceptable.
Now I understand why there are 3 journalists in jail in Egypt - which gives me more faith in the Egyption justice system than in Israels
