Lesson from Past for Anti-Israel One-State Conference
This weekend, Harvard's Kennedy School is playing host to a "One-State Conference" that will focus on, to borrow a phrase, wiping the Jewish state off the map.
Many observers have pointed out the bigoted and one-sided nature of this conference.
And if we play a bit with the space-time continuum, we also have voices from Harvard past condemning the conference. In a comment to a previous Snapshots post, Michael Segal brings to light the following ad, published in the November 12, 1975 Harvard Crimson and endorsed by prominent faculty and 700 students, slamming the "singling out for condemnation" of "the national liberation movement of the Jewish people."

It is startling to realize Harvard and other "prestigious" Universities have allowed this hate rally to be conducted as a one-dimensional anti-free speech forum(Free speech protects dialogue, Wendell Holmes, if you need jurist's explanation.). Hate thrives in monologues, and the net and other media outlets have shown instance after instance when Israel's spokesmen invited to speak at Universities in the USA, have been shouted down by the fascist tone of the Palestinian ideologues. The failing of Harvard to make this an instance advocating genuine free speech clearly demonstrates money can not create an atmosphere for higher learning. It is not believable that the Palestinians who have failed to take advantage of any opportuniy to establish a Palestianian state, spurning any idea that would create two states, could rule one state. They have demonstrated by their own bad faith in incompability to self-govern. Hate is an extremely destrucful force no matter how well sugar coated it is made to appear.

I'd love to know what the signatories of this petition are doing now. I wonder if any of them are on the Harvard faculty?
