CNN Misidentifies Arson Suspect as Settler

Before there was even a suspect, the BBC blamed the Tuba Zanghariya mosque arson attack, in northern Israel, on a settler. Now, it has been reported that a suspect has been arrested, and that he is not a settler, but a youth from northern Israel who studies in the West Bank yeshiva of Yitzhar.

But that hasn't stopped CNN from falsely reporting:

Israeli media sources said he is a Jewish yeshiva student from the northern West Bank.

The sentence itself is ambiguous-- the yeshiva in yitzhar is very much in the northern west bank. it could be parsed as "A jewish yeshiva student who when not in yeshiva lives in the west bank," or "a Jewish yeshiva student whose yeshiva is in the west bank." The latter would be wholly accurate. There is enough egregious misreporting for this blog to focus on without picking nits.

(It is a safe presumption, this being yitzhar, that the student is from yeshivat od yosef chai? From which such notables as the yeshiva student who made his own qassams received their education? a yeshiva which no longer receives funds from the israeli government because of the determination by Ehud Barak and others that it was a center of extremism? One where students are taught by authors of the book "torat hamelekh," which gained notoriety because of its apparent 'leniency' with regard to preemptive or preventive murder of gentiles where a future of terrorism is suspected?

At this point, the new information reinforces a media stereotype, rather than showing any mistaken assumptions. If the kid had been a leftist from tel aviv it woulda been a lot more exciting to report.)

This article is about Jewish racism. By your guidelines the article should be pulled.

These are Jewish terrorists - plain and simple.
No surprise.

Keith -- What exactly in our "guidelines" do you see which indicates that we believe the article should be pulled?

Yeshivat Od yosef Hai was burnt down by Arabs in September 2000, and was ransaked and pulverised by them. I hope you remember that fact, reporting a burnt Mosque. Somehow, Arabs never got to apologize on that crime
