Historical Revisionism in LA Times Annapolis Coverage

lat Annapolis coverage.gif

The Los Angeles Times twice engages in historical revisionism during the course of its Annapolis coverage today. First, the article by Paul Richter and Richard Boudreaux inaccurately descripes a key Palestinian obligation under the "road map," stating that the plan "requires certain interim steps, including action to disarm militant groups."

While the "road map" calls on Palestinians to act against terror, terrorism, or terrorist capabilities and infrastructure more than half a dozen times, not once does it mention "militant" or "militancy." Though "militant" too often has been used in the press as a euphemism for terrorist, in particular for those conducting terrorism against Israel, those who drafted the "road map" pointedly avoided such confusion.

In a second departure from the historic record, a sidebar on Annapolis today incorrectly states that:

The Palestinians, who account for about one-third of the city's 732,100 people, want to recover East Jerusalem and make it the capital of their state.

Of course, it's wrong to say that the Palestinians want to "recover" East Jerusalem, since it was never before in history under their control.

DOESN'T ANYONE REMEMBER THAT FROM 1948 UNTIL 1967 THERE WAS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE PALESTINIAN ARABS TO START THEIR OWN STATE. INSTEAD THE ARABS ISSUED A PROCLAMATION AT THE ARAB LEAGUE AT KHARTOUM OF THE THREE NOES. NO RECOGNITION, NO NEGOTIATIONS, NO RECOGNITION OF ISRAEL. THERE WERE SEVERAL OPPORTUNITIES OVER THE YEARS, BUT THOSE THREE NOES WERE THEIR RESPONSE. NOW THEY ARE DEMANDING CONCESSIONS FROM ISRAEL WHILE STILL SPONSORING HATRED AND INCITEMENT. THEY HAVE REDEFINED THE WORD CHUTZPAH.

Totally typical of the liberal, anti-Semitic media to use euphemisms for terror. What is far worse than that are the distortions told about the Palestinians in Gaza and the dailt rocket attacks against civilians in Israel.

The AP is especially guilty here because they are the ones who release news ckips to the major outlet.

I'm sure that the reports I heard on CBS and Fox news came from the AP. Here's what they had to say about the Israeli response to daily rocket attacks from Gaza (words in caps for emphasis):

"The IDF attacked and killed 2 Palestinian militants in RETALIATION for rocket attacks AIMED AT MILITARY INSTALLATIONS IN ISRAEL."

First of all, the IDF is trying to stop the rocket attacks, and not exact revenge like the Palestinians often do and for bogus reasons.

Secondly, the rocket attacks are almost exclusively made againt civilian targets in Israel, like Sderot.
